Caroline Powell, Marion County Correctional Officer, Remembered After Early Morning Two-Vehicle Road Incident While Traveling To Work On May 26, 2026
Caroline Powell, a correctional officer at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility in Columbia, Mississippi, died Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026, while driving to work before sunrise.
Mississippi Highway Patrol said the two-vehicle incident happened near U.S. Highway 98 in Marion County shortly before 5:45 a.m., after Powell’s SUV entered the highway from Lampton Hilltop Road and collided with a pickup truck.
Powell died at the scene, and another driver was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries as investigators continued reviewing the circumstances.
Co-workers remembered Powell as a dedicated officer who cared about serving the community and brought pride to each shift.
Family and friends also remembered Powell as dependable, kindhearted, and devoted to two young children.
