Reginald Starks, 19, Texas Southern University Student From Jonesboro, Remembered After Passing At Panther Creek Falls In Habersham County, Georgia
Reginald Starks, a 19-year-old student at Texas Southern University in Houston, passed away on Sunday during an afternoon outing at Panther Creek Falls in Habersham County, Georgia.
Emergency crews responded around 4 p.m. after a report of a possible drowning near the waterfall inside the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Game wardens with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources arrived first, followed by deputies from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities located Reginald in water estimated at about 12 feet deep, and emergency efforts took place at the scene before officials confirmed the passing.
Reginald came from Jonesboro, Georgia, and studied as a rising sophomore at Texas Southern University.
Reginald also took part in the university’s Ocean of Soul marching band, a respected campus group.
Officials continue to review what happened, and memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
