Truman James Greaves, Brilliant Purdue Freshman, Tragically Found Dead on Campus in West Lafayette, IN
Truman James Greaves, a promising 19-year-old engineering student at Purdue University, was tragically found dead in the Physics Building on March 18, 2026, leaving the university and the community in shock and sorrow.
A National Merit Finalist and summa cum laude graduate, Truman was known not only for his exceptional academic achievements but also for his deep compassion and humility. A member of the Honors College, Truman had a vision to change the world. He was already making a significant impact through his project, Compleyes.ai, which won state-wide innovation competitions. He was a passionate debater and a beloved community member who cherished his time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
Beyond his intellect, Truman was cherished for his kind heart. He spent his free time scaling rock walls, spending time with his beloved cats, Boulder and Pebbles, and engaging in meaningful activities that reflected his love for others. Friends and family remember him for his thoughtfulness and generosity, describing him as someone who built communities, not just participated in them.
The news of his passing has left a profound emptiness in Zionsville and West Lafayette. A celebration of life will be held on March 21 at St. Francis In-The-Fields Episcopal Church. The family has requested donations in Truman’s honor to PFLAG and World Central Kitchen.
Truman's life, though tragically short, was filled with promise, kindness, and intellect. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
