Ottumwa Community Mourns Ashlin Knuth, 18, After Sunday Night Crash Days After 2026 High School Graduation

Ashlin Knuth, an 18-year-old member of Ottumwa High School’s Class of 2026, died after a Sunday night crash near Ottumwa, Iowa.

The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. at U.S. Highway 34 and Roemer Avenue, where Ashlin drove west on Roemer Avenue and a pickup driven north on Highway 34 by 21-year-old Nathaniel Hart of Ottumwa struck Ashlin’s vehicle.

Emergency crews freed Ashlin and an 18-year-old passenger from the vehicle and took both to Ottumwa Regional Health Center, where medical staff tried to save Ashlin.

Authorities have not released the passenger’s condition, and Hart reportedly had no injuries.

The Ottumwa Police Department continues to review speed, visibility, and other circumstances, and officials had announced no charges as of May 19, 2026.

Family, classmates, and neighbors remember Ashlin as kind, warm, and full of life, while memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
