Daniel Crumrine, Dedicated Springfield Golf Course Superintendent, Dies in Tragic Workplace Accident at Lincoln Greens
Daniel Crumrine, a 51-year-old superintendent for the Springfield Park District, tragically passed away on Thursday following a workplace accident at Lincoln Greens Golf Course in Springfield.
Emergency responders found Crumrine beneath a lawn tractor around 10:30 a.m. and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Friends and colleagues remembered Crumrine as a steady and caring presence on the greens, dedicated to both the grounds and the people he worked with. He had overseen turf care and equipment at Lincoln Greens, one of the park district’s busiest courses, for many years.
The Sangamon County Coroner confirmed that Crumrine’s death resulted from crush injuries, and officials stated there is no indication of foul play. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the accident occurred.
Springfield Park District Police Chief Patrick Murphy expressed his shock, calling the incident “horrible and shocking,” and emphasized that nothing currently suggests anything beyond a tragic accident.
The local golf and turfgrass community mourns the loss of a respected professional whose expertise and kindness touched many. Friends and family shared condolences online, with one colleague writing, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Daniel. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
Memorial service details and further funeral arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
