Daniel Edward Gannon, 60, Remembered After Fatal May 22, 2026 I-270 Collision In Rockville
Daniel Edward Gannon, a 60-year-old Rockville resident, died on Friday morning, May 22, 2026, after a Volkswagen EOS struck the rear of a stopped tractor-trailer on the northbound express lanes of Interstate 270 in Montgomery County.
The collision happened around 7:30 a.m. between Route 28 and Shady Grove Road, during the busy morning commute.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews freed Daniel Edward Gannon from the vehicle, and emergency medical personnel gave immediate care at the scene.
Authorities said Daniel Edward Gannon died at the scene, while the tractor-trailer operator was evaluated and did not go to the hospital.
Maryland State Police said preliminary information shows the tractor-trailer had stopped or become disabled in the roadway before the impact, and the investigation remains active with no confirmed cause.
Multiple northbound lanes and a shoulder closed for hours as troopers and CHART crews worked at the site.
